Oak Gall Ink

I’m experimenting with making ink from Oak Gall using artist Jo Lathwood’s brilliantly comprehensive guide.

I’ve got a micro-commission from Exeter City Of Literature to run a workshop with Beer Primary School to explore the materiality of books. Inspired by the Anglo Saxon Exeter Book, I’m trying to make Oak Gall ink and we’ll play around with printing on vellum, parchment and different papers.

Right now, the galls have been crushed, boiled, strained and ink is fermenting nicely on my kitchen window sill.
